Devlog #5: Old Art vs New, Coding, Synopsis Update

Thought it's time to share some art for the game, so far I have the sprites for the protagonist. Since I've been playing 2000's VN games but also love the style I decided to go for it. Here's Jessica's sprites:

Old Art:

Jessica was an old OC I had, she was originally named Asa for a rom-com I had in 2020. The same character went through many changes, I had a webcomic idea in 2021 called Demon's Motive. Deep Blood Town was the name of that town for the story, I'm basically reusing that as the title for my VN and reusing the good ideas I had over the years.

Coding:

Some coding changes to make the game feel more 2000's NVL-Mode.

CTC is more aligned (script.rpy).

Drop shadow effect (script.rpy).

Hide the quick menu on the game, you can still skip with ctrl/tab though (screens.rpy). The old VN games did display this, but for style reasons I want to remove this.

How to change the font size (gui.rpy).

With an enlarged font, I limit the list of dialogue to 3 rows so it won't cut out (gui.rpy).

I changed the font again, will be using Spectral it feels more fitting (gui.rpy).

Synopsis Update:

The current year is 1992. Without any explanation, the homicide investigator's most trusted friend disappears. The Tin Foil Knights, an unusual group, gains attention. A superstitious town where the line between reality and horror becomes unclear.

OLD: 

It's 1992. Agent Jessica Anderson, an experienced federal homicide investigator, returns from leave to discover her best friend and colleague, Agent Quentin Sinclair, existence is gone. When Jessica attempts to seek assistance or engage with the other members of the Bureau, she realises that everyone is behaving oddly in Deep Blood Town and the townspeople are speaking in creepy, cryptid riddles. She assumes that Quentin had chosen to do an investigation alone, which was different from their usual protocol of working together. Jessica decides to take action by unlawfully entering Quentin's house to find any proof that could reveal his actions and location. In a town where reality and nightmares mix, Jessica is alone and must face terrifying horrors. Will she be able to save Quentin or discover a sinister and incomprehensible evil?
